Accessibility Statement
Last updated: June 23, 2026
Fur Union is committed to making our website usable by as many people as possible, including those who rely on assistive technology or have visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive needs. Accessibility is part of how we welcome our community online.
Standards we follow
We work to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the international standard for accessible web content.
Measures we take
- Semantic HTML and ARIA labels so screen readers can navigate the site.
- Keyboard navigation throughout the site, including menus, forms, the events calendar, and the gallery lightbox.
- A “Skip to main content” link visible on keyboard focus.
- Color contrast that meets WCAG AA for body text and interactive elements.
- Descriptive alt text on photos that convey meaning.
- Reduced-motion support: animations are disabled when your operating system requests it.
- Forms with clear labels, error messages, and visible focus states.
- Responsive layouts that work at any zoom level up to 200%.
Known limitations
We test on common screen readers and browsers and review the site regularly. Some areas may still fall short. Known gaps we are actively addressing:
- Some embedded third-party content (e.g. maps, social feeds) may not be fully accessible.
- Older photos in the archive may lack detailed captions; we are adding them as we revisit each.
Languages
The site is currently published in English. We are working toward adding Arabic and Fur language support to better serve our community.

Ongoing work
Accessibility is an ongoing commitment, not a one-time project. We continue to review and improve the site as we publish new content and add features.
